Book publishing has entered a period of considerable turbulence. There is considerable uncertainty about the future and what it holds. Physical bookstores are in trouble and the digital world favours the larger players such as Amazon, Apple and Google. In this book, Angus Phillips examine the themes that are shaping the future of the publishing industry and how we consume content. Overall themes include: the convergence of different media the expectations of consumers that content should be free the increasing dominance of digital formats globalization the growth of communities around content the power of the internet Drawing on interviews with leading professionals in the industry and associated fields, and referencing key theories on business, intellectual property, sociology and technology, this book examines the key drivers that underpin the book industry, in terms of both demand and supply. Examining how authorship, readership and copyright are being shaped by a variety of forces, most prominently digital developments but also globalization and the dominance of the English language, it takes an international perspective: comparing the effect on differing trade markets and looking to the US who are at the vanguard of digital technology. Parallels will also be drawn with other media industries such as newspapers and music. The changes ahead question many of our assumptions about the book industry, from the role of authors and publishers to the very nature of the book itself and its place in society.

I am a financial writer primarily, and discouraged after several years of using Contribute, then trying to learn Dreamweaver to upgrade my website and make it easier to use. The learning curve is steep and is taking way too much of my time. My site is almost pure educational, needs many pages of content, but I'd also like to post up epub and ebooks, as well as linking to articles that I have written for publication, and have the ability to upload informational webinars.
